Suggested Honeymoon Destinations - Long Haul

The Caribbean island of Antigua may be regarded as being out of some couples' reach, but there are many beautiful options at reasonable prices on offer.

Located in the Leeward Islands, Antigua is well known for its 365 beaches. It is the picture postcard perfect image you have in your mind but what a lot of people don't realise is that there is so much more to offer besides the fantastic beaches.

The island is home to many attractions so if couples can tear themselves away from their sunloungers long enough they will experience the friendly nature of the Antiguan people. Take a Jeep safari for a day and explore the whole island, drive along Fig Tree Drive and head towards the famous 'Nelson's Dockyard' and step back in time. For more adventurous couples, enjoy the spine tingling experience of taking a zip wire across the rain forest canopy! Or a more relaxing way to see the Island would be to make a circumnavigation of Antigua by catamaran, a great way to see the coast line, including the chance to stop at a private island for lunch and be served drinks right on the beach. Join in with the locals at 'Shirley Heights' every Sunday night for a traditional Caribbean barbeque buffet and dance the night away to local reggae bands whilst enjoying excellent views across the island.

Couples will find a wide range of accommodation on offer, you can choose from a romantic rustic style cottages set in an intimate property or, at the other end of the scale, a large luxury resort set in huge grounds with grand suites and private butlers!

A real romantic gem I would suggest is the beautiful 'Cocobay' set on the west coast. The property is spread out over the hillside overlooking one of the most beautiful bays on the island. Only 57 cottages in total, the place has a really relaxed intimate feel. I would reccommend the 'Sea Front Cottages' which are set closer to the water's edge with breathtaking sea views. Doors from the bedroom open up on to a terrace only steps away from your own private plunge pool with ocean views and all cottages come with a hammock to laze in. They offer real privacy, perfect for honeymooners, and are excellent value for money. The property offers two great choices for dining, including the 'Sheer' Asian fusion restaurant, which is also a popular choice with the locals. It's a smaller resort more suited to those couples who want a relaxed atmosphere in a stunning setting with rustic style cottages. A unique accommodation perfect for romance and privacy.
