Guide to Ticket Types

There are three main types of ticket:

Anytime - Can be bought on the day of travel. Valid on any train.

Off-Peak - Can be bought on the day of travel. Valid on most trains but early morning and evening retrictions may apply.

Advance - Booked in advance with a reservation on specific trains, generally non-refundable.

Advance tickets are usually the cheapest and are available on most longer distance journeys. Book as far ahead as possible (generally 8-12 weeks) for the best availability. Not all train companies offer Advance tickets and it may be necessary to buy separate tickets for each leg of the journey if you're changing trains.

Railcards offer excellent reductions to anyone aged 16-25 (or a mature student), aged 60 or over, or adults travelling with one or more children.

See our Rail Rover page for information about 'go anywhere' tickets.

Our journey planning and ticket issuing system is exactly the same as that used by the train companies themselves.

All of branches are equipped with Fujitu's STAR ticket issuing system, identical to that used in station booking offices and at train company telesales sites.

Our consultants use their specialist skills and knowledge to advise on best routes and fares, saving you time and money.
